Serving craven county middle & high schools
Carrie On NC, Inc. is committed to filling the gaps in community resources, as well as creating programs that generate long term impacts on children's lives. The mission of Carrie's Closet is to provide hygiene and toiletry products to the children of Craven and surrounding Counties to assist with the meeting their immediate need so that they can focus on being a kid! Studies show that when children feel good about themselves they are more confident, and have better mental health, educational, and physical health outcomes. Children who have their basic needs met have less absences in school due to higher self-esteem, less medical appointments, and are able to focus on school instead of what they need!

so what's the impact of going without?
A simple bar of soap is a lasting investment in the life of a child.
According to research by Feeding America
http://www.feedingamerica.org/research/in-short-supply/in-short-supply-executive.pdf
- 58% of low-income individuals who were unable to buy personal care products reported cutting back on food to afford toiletries and hygiene products. The study reports using only water to brush teeth, delaying diaper changes or reusing diapers, bathing without toiletries, and other sacrifices families struggling to make ends meet must make.
- 40% of participants reported skipping or delaying rent payments to obtain products. This could mean possible eviction for children and families and an ultimate price of homelessness.
- 47% of study participants reported feeling stressed and worried often or constantly. Can you imagine not being able to meet your most basic personal hygiene needs? This is a reality for many of the children in Craven and surrounding counties. Children lack the access to hygiene products, proper clothing, and basic needs for one reason of another, Some parents have to choose between basic hygiene needs and gas to get to work!
